Coating
X-ray mirrors are typically coated with a very thin layer of a heavy metal, such as platinum or gold, to increase the reflectivity of the mirror surface.
At Crystal Scientific mirrors are coated by sputtering, which provides very good control of the metal layer thickness and density, which is very important for the x-ray reflection process. The thickness and coating density are then confirmed by x-ray reflectivity measurements.
We can provide coatings in platinum, rhodium, palladium, gold, nickel and chromium.
We are also developing a differential coating system to improve slope errors on mirrors. Read more about our Research and Development and the Differential Coating Process.
