Metrology
Metrology is the science of measurement. It is a vital part of the production and testing of all mirrors and crystals that we produce. Each mirror or crystal will be measured many times during the production process to check on progress to the ultimate specification required.
Crystal Scientific has the following capabilities:
- X-ray diffraction - to measure crystal orientation
- Contact Profiling - to measure overall dimensions and shapes such as curved surfaces of small radius
- Interferometers - to measure surface roughness, flatness and shape
- Long Trace Profiler (LTP) - the LTP is a scanning interferometer that is able to precisely measure sub-microradian slope errors from point-to-point along the whole mirror length
- Nanometer-Optical Measuring machine (NOM) - the NOM is an autocollimator based metrology system that measures mirror shape and slope errors more accurately
